Long ago, 500 years approximately people who weren’t modern or developed like us today had created a problem unknowingly or knowingly.
The problem was “discrimination”. There were some group of people known as low caste were suppressed by people of upper caste. The problem came arose when people ranked each other and two same individuals were made lower and upper.
The lower caste had to fight for their social status and educational rights.

This was a short back story of how things actually originated from. So as to reduce the gap between these castes on basis of social and educational rights, and to protect the fundamental right to equality under article 14 and article 15(1), the government brought new articles. Article 15(4) empowers state to make any provisions for advancement of any socially and educationally backward of classes of citizens or for schedule caste and schedule tribe.
Article 15(4) empowers state to make any provisions for advancement of any socially and educationally backward of classes of citizens or for schedule caste and schedule tribe.

The gist of the story is government reserved the opportunities for people who weren’t offered opportunities just because they were born in certain caste which led to their economic depletion. But there is no where mentioned that government brought all these amendments because a certain caste was evidently poor. Rather it gave birth to reservation of social backwardness created by people made other caste economically poor.
We all should have a fair chance to participate right? That’s what exactly authorities might have thought back then.

So, today inequality does exist even after reservation. The reasons could be several like absorption of law, practices of people and practicality of society. And in present day, today we are so prejudiced about unequal distribution of resources among castes known as “reservation”.
What we all really need to understand is we need equity not equality to be equal. If we give 2 rotis each to an empty stomach child and full stomach child then it is only equal distribution but not bringing equality. We have to give empty stomach child extra rotis so he can actually be equal to the full stomach child hence bringing equity.
By distributing resources unequally to fetch end result as equality we require equity to function. At the end of the day we have to accept some facts which will make us more acceptable towards this present society we live in.

If earlier, people were acceptable enough and accepted other people the way they were, then this inequality wouldn’t have born. So it is right time that we accept some facts like inequality still prevails(may not be as extreme as it was), equal distribution can’t bring equality and we have to focus on bringing equity hence leading to betterment of society.

Let’s not repeat the mistakes our ancestors did. Let the past be past and move towards future. Let’s not make more such decisions which will impact our future generations as we are suffering now from this stereotypical meaning of reservation. Let us be more acceptable and moving force towards development by bringing welfare of each human.
